Tips for sand casting prong settings from @materialmaya. “For those who want to improve their sand casting and be able to cast more complex designs: start with a core kit. I 3D‑printed mine, but really recommend the one from Craig Dabler (easy to find online), same with his vacuum system - it works like magic ✨ My DIY setup I show on this video is a small hand vacuum cleaner plus the rubber base from an engraving vise. I still need to add a steel mesh to stop any molten metal from escaping into the plastic vacuum cleaner.” Why does a vacuum help capture small details? Fine oil-bonded sands like Delft Clay are dense — great for detail, but they trap air and gases when you pour. A vacuum draws that trapped air and gas out through the sand, reducing resistance so the molten metal can flow into every corner of the mold cavity. The result is sharper prongs, crisper textures, and finer edges — with far less porosity or defects! Thank you so much for allowing me to share this video. It’s really cool to see people taking sand casting to the next level and to hear about your DIY setups in addition to
@craigdabler 🙏
