Here’s a DIY tool we created in @kmbcustoms’ Bridal Settings class at @grstools 💎 that is a total game changer:
On day one, we turned old steel or carbide burs into tiny burnishers to polish the inside of our cast prong settings. You chuck the bur into your flex shaft and run it against a diamond wheel in your micromotor to shape and polish it—SO satisfying. If you don’t have diamond wheels, no problem: run the bit against sandpaper (progressively working your way up to a polish) while it’s spinning in your flex shaft. I’d go with a stainless steel bur for that version. 😉
The result? A bright, clean polish in tight areas without removing material or softening edges like sanding or polishing compounds can. I made a few burnishers in different sizes and they’ve instantly earned a spot in my everyday lineup.
This was just one of the tips I learned that leveled up my stone setting game this past week. I can’t recommend taking a class at GRS enough! It is always a valuable investment in my skills—now I just need to practice practice practice!💍🛠️

#grstrainingcenter #grstools #stoneSetting #burnishing #jewelrymakingtips #metalsmithsociety #bridalsettings #jewelryeducation #benchjeweler #flexshafttools #micromotor #handmadejewelry #jewelryskills #goldsmithlife #jewelersofinstagram
