Do you need to resize a ring with a stone? Here is a heat shield tip from @jen_surine 🔥
“When I’m sizing a ring with a stone that can’t take the heat from the torch, I love using this chunky gel that acts as a thermo shield to the areas that can’t take the high temperatures. I will fully admit, I like to really slather it on and insulate that stone well, I probably don’t need that much. But I like to really make sure it’s fully covered, as you can see.
Once the stone is protected I solder the band where I preformed the ring size, making sure to solder quickly and keep the torch angled away from the stone hiding in the thermo gel.
After soldering I let it cool completely, check my solder join, and then begin to remove the gel. Once I’ve removed most of it with the back of my tweezers, I rinse it in water and it’s ready for clean up.
Not only is the stone perfect, but the area in the gel still has its polish and everything!”
I’ve used this same Thermo Paste and it works beautifully. However always use with caution, no method is ever a guarantee.
