@birchwolf - “Sharpen your graver to the finest point possible. I like a Triangle, though other shapes will work. You'll need to resharpen throughout the process. sharpen at a high angle and the point will be strong but blunt, sharpen at a low angle and the point will be weaker but sharp. Setting a light up in front of your engraving is crucial. Look up "Angle of Incidence" on google to get an idea of what I'm talking about. If you don't have the correct angle you won't see the dark marks left by the stipple. Ring lights will Not work for this. I recommend looking for a Gooseneck LED light around 4x4 inches or more. Bulino engraving is the art of 100,000 stipples. If you want a high-quality engraving you must have extreme patience. In order to create your deepest shades, you have to cover the area 100% with stipples and block all light from reflecting through. for all the other shading you have to space out your stipples to allow light to reflect through. It's very similar to shading in drawing, one dot at a time. Inking the engraving allows it to be visible from all angles. You don't have to ink them but I prefer it. I mix my ink with a bit of lighter fluid with all my windows open to circulate air. I then rub the ink on the engraving.
