It’s a question a lot of folks ask. This 👆 gray stuff is called Thermoloc made by @grstools it’s non-toxic and biodegradable! It is a reusable plastic that you use to secure your work for stone setting. It is an essential tool I use daily in my studio.
Tip: I cover as much of my piece as possible with thermoloc to prevent it from an accidental ding. I sometimes keep my setting in the thermoloc while I polish and this also helps prevent me from hitting the another area of my piece by accident. When you remove your piece you just heat around the stone not directly blasting it with heat, I use this with fragile opals regularly, I just take my time!
