Today I posted my first ever, step by step tutorial on the Society blog! In it I show you how to create this ring which has a gorgeous American Mined Turquoise cabochon from @riogrande đ For todayâs tip I wanted to talk about some considerations for successfully soldering gallery wire (all of which I break down in greater detail on the blog). It is so helpful to use a @knew_concepts trivet when soldering gallery wire to a baseplate. The trivet allows you to get your flame underneath and off of the gallery wire directly. This will help you not to melt your wire (this is one of the biggest struggles with gallery wires so if you have melted you are not alone)! Later on when I was soldering the bezel to the actual ring, I found soldering clay was perfect for submerging the entire bezel into! This not only positioned the ring for soldering but heat protected the gallery wire as well! I like Kate Wolfâs clay but there are many different varieties available. Please head over to the blog to see the entire post! @riogrande is offering 10% off their American Mined Collection for our community with code MTLSMITH4 (Valid April 24 - June 19, 2019) so itâs the perfect time to try out these awesome, ethically sourced stones (and make this ring!) If you do decide to create this ring, please be sure to tag me and Iâll share to my stories! Also share with #riograndeamericanminedgems đ so we can see what everyone is doing with these stones! #sponsored #metalsmithsociety #solderingtips #jewelrytipoftheday
